It was good for me to share about how one big facet of my work is about
including all the people that I have for this piece. I feel most alive
when I’m including people who don’t fit in other places, and when my
work becomes a sanctuary for “misfits” of all kinds. That feels like a
big part of my mission. And then even those who do fit in other places,
but want a more diverse community and more exposure to people who are
unfamiliar, find their way into the work too. I’ve always felt (and
still do) like a misfit, so in a sense my work is to make a place for
myself that I can be at home.
