The Cal State East Bay Department of Theatre and Dance is collaborating with Dandelion Dancetheater and a wildly diverse group of artists, activists, free-thinkers, and creative rabble-rousers to launch the second Inclusive Performance Festival (IPF) October 21st – 24th 2022 at CSU East Bay, Hayward.
The IPF is a grass-roots, DIY, radically inclusive, process-oriented festival that is experimenting with sharing performance in accessible, relevant, life-affirming, and innovative ways to meet the needs of many intersecting communities in this new era for the arts.
Planned collectively by a council of Queer, BIPOC, Autistic, Jewish, Neurodivergent, Fat, Young, Elder, Outsider, and uncategorizable artists, the festival will present virtual, in-person, and hybrid dance, music, theatre, drag, ritual, educational events, drama therapy, participatory performances, discussions, workshops, ceremonies, and more.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21ST
5 – 7pm, University Theatre Lobby and Courtyard: Center for Disability Justice Research Launch Party with AXIS Dance Company and special guests. The Center for Disability Justice Research: Health Equity, Education, and Creativity is a multi-disciplinary hub for faculty, staff, students, and community members working to advance disability justice at Cal State East Bay and in the broader community. We promote equity through radically inclusive teaching, scholarship, and advocacy and aim to increase access to optimal health, quality healthcare, and inclusive higher education for all disabled persons.
7 – 8:30pm, Danza Azteca with Calpulli Ome-Tekpatl: An introduction to Danza Azteca at the University Theatre Lobby and Courtyard, for people of all abilities and levels of experience. Come dance, drum, witness, and enjoy this powerful community dance prayer practice.

Indigenous Music Workshop with Ras K’Dee ( as invited by Dancing Earth )

Join Ras K’Dee (AFro-Pomo musician, community educator, and renowned lyricist, producer, & lead vocalist/keyboardist of AudioPharmacy. for an exploration of culturally -informed music practices.
Translating artistically through hip-hop rhymes and soulful melodies, K’dee invokes the songs and dances from traditional ceremonies of his native people, and tells stories of resistance, healing, community & empowerment that can be understood and felt universally by all people. K’dee has been featured in Smithsonian Magazine (Summer 2010) and his awards include KQED American Indian Local Heroes Award, and Most Earnest and Up And Coming Band (2005). K’dee has toured locally and internationally with Audiopharmacy and is the co founder of SNAG magazine , and builder of the NEST, the first sustainably built, Indigenous-led community arts center in California.

The CSUEB Wind Symphony & Wandering Ensemble Collide!
April 16th, 17th, 23rd, & 24th, 7:30 – 8pm (Pacific Daylight Time)
A performance experiment in the spirit of the early John Cage/Merce Cunningham chance collisions of music and dance. The CSU East Bay Wind Symphony (led by Professor Danielle Gaudry) will perform live as the Wandering Ensemble improvises a movement installation.

Wandering in the Wilderness – Cycle 1
April 16th, 17th, 23rd, & 24th, 8:00 – 10:00pm (Pacific Daylight Time)
Dandelion Dancetheater and the CSU East Bay Inclusive Interdisciplinary Ensemble (IIE) have joined forces to experiment with evolving modes of performance sharing. Wandering will take 40 years to create and will premiere April 8th, 2061. The Wandering Ensemble shares excerpts developed so far, both in-person and online, that explore experiences of wandering through inner and outer unknown realms.
In-person, outdoor, physically-distanced performances will take place at the CSU East Bay University Theatre Courtyard. These sharings will also be live-streamed via Zoom. Outside my window, the bees from a nearby hive swarm with a tremendous buzz and dart crazily among the clusters of lilac buds ready to burst into bloom. We are reminded that in the Earth is our power and in our love of the Earth and the life she bears is our healing.
I hardly need remark that we face multiple dire threats: a deadly pandemic; climate change with forests burning, storms and floods, glaciers melting, oceans rising displacing immigrant families fleeing poverty and violence who coming to our borders are torn apart, children caged; our black and brown brothers and sisters are wantonly murdered by the police, domestic terrorists threaten us all; and our fragile developing democracy is gravely threatened by the systemic forces that oppose it, primarily an economic system that has no regard for the Earth nor for human suffering but favors the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the few, the racism that underlies it.
Our workshop will focus on our responses in writing to the issues that face us. The issues are daunting but our imaginations have no bounds; our hopes must keep strong; in protecting life, we must celebrate it; our grief must be honored and expressed but we must foster our joy; our responses are infinite. Despite the enormity of the challenges faced, we will enjoy our coming together, being there for one another, taking comfort and pleasure and solace in each and in each other’s inimitable way of seeing, of writing.
The word poem has its root in the Greek word ‘to create’ or ‘to make.’ All art is a ‘making, a fitting together’ and none more primal and essential to being human as language. It is a skill we all have, and as with all skills, it is perfected by practicing it in a conscious way. Language, and especially poetry, is not so much a mode of expression as it is a mode of perception. All art should be a joy and in making art joyfully and consciously we make our revolution, a revolution of the mind and the heart in perceiving the Earth and redefining our relationship to her that is harmonious and just and loving. That must be our revolution.

June Bug Rolls Toward the Sun Like a Scarab (video performance) & Embracing the Strange (workshop)

June Bug Rolls Toward the Sun Like a Scarab is a multimedia dance theater solo performance about dating, dance, and parenting with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). On a quest for true love and artistic survival, Liz Duran Boubion’s transformation from larvae to beetle draws from The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, The Egyptian Book of the Dead, and her personal stories as a queer Latinx dance animal grappling with themes of belonging, failure and self-acceptance.
Embracing the Strange: After a brief Q & A with the choreographer, the audience will be led through a guided movement improvisation, a writing prompt and will have an opportunity to witness and share personal stories of related themes around embracing difference and self-acceptance in break out rooms with other members of the zoom audience. Boubion will be facilitating the workshop using tools from Somatics therapy modalities and the Tamalpa Life-Art Process.

Wildance at Wilder

You will find us dancing at Fern Grotto Beach by the Pacific Ocean. You are invited to walk by, to watch a few moments from above, or walk down to the beach to witness us up close.
It is approximately a 1 mile (30 minute) walk on the Old Cove Landing Trail to our location. Please be safe and respectful of COVID precautions and restrictions. This is a highly trafficked, moderate trail along the coast. The short section down to the beach can be slippery in some areas. The trail continues and makes a 2 mile loop back to the parking lot.
